This is the key truth taught by the Savior in the center parable in Matthew 25. (5) And "that's not all" - as we obey this and other commandments, we get another blessing that is both immediate and lasting - we get happy."<BR/><BR/>The continuing problem I have with such teachings are that if they were true, everyone would self-interestedly give becuase of the positive return on investment. If the receipts were better than what we gave up, no faith would be required and we would simply be pavlov's dog, ringing the bell to get our food. That is true with getting happiness back as well.<BR/><BR/>The only way I can reconcile it in my mind is that we give temporally and receive eternally, meaning we don't receive back immediately and likely not in this life.J-Dawghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09362798413338681431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1356444667090605345.post-52097623738303807462009-03-03T23:11:00.000-06:002009-03-03T23:11:00.000-06:00It is a fact that none of what we have, whether th...It is a fact that none of what we have, whether that is a little or a lot, is ours. C.S. Lewis stated it this way (and I feel vindicated in using it as Elder Maxwell also refers to this concept), the only thing we really have that is "ours" to give is our will (and even the freedom we have to exercise that will was provided by our Heavenly Father). Since that is all we have to give tthat is ours, that is what we must give him. So simple, yet so difficult. We seem always to think we have a better way to do things than the one who created everything. Looking at it logically, it is not a very tenable position to believe and act as if we had a better idea.Vecchiocanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07367230549774155336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1356444667090605345.post-89629129177758778122009-03-01T21:35:00.000-06:002009-03-01T21:35:00.000-06:00This is certainly everything just I would have sai...This is certainly everything just I would have said it, with the possible addition that though "there is something all can give", there are times and seasons in our lives, and we are not necessarily able (nor is it even needful) to give of everything we have all the time. "There's a time and a place for everything" does not only apply to improper behavior at the dinner table. It is our righteous desires (welling up in our purified hearts) that prompt us to know what is right to give, and when the time is right to give it.P&M Inc.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10407144415955948521noreply@blogger.com
